Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency

The Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency was established based on the Act on the Establishment of the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency (Official Gazette 14/14, 73/17, 84/21) as a public body that individually and independently performs tasks within the scope and competences determined by the subject Act.

The activity of the Agency includes systematic operational support to competent authorities in the field of exploration and production of hydrocarbons, geothermal water for energy purposes, underground gas storage and carbon capture and storage as well as responsible, high-quality and efficient management of compulsory stocks of oil and oil derivatives. Consolidating resources within a legislative act increases the energy system efficiency by reducing administrative barriers.

Mission and vision

Convert the energy potential into energy resources in order to ensure the stability and energy security of the Republic of Croatia. Responsible management of natural resources and harnessing all domestic potential that can contribute to the country’s energy transition and sustainability.

Through new technologies and the development of geothermal projects, enable the preservation of knowledge accumulated in the tradition of Croatian oil mining, drilling, exploration and exploitation of underground reservoirs.

Become the central body that promotes, launches and implements projects recognised as the backbone of the energy transition of the Republic of Croatia towards its sustainable energy future. A platform for international cooperation, excellence, resources and knowledge about the totality of the Earth’s energy.

In accordance with the goals and obligations assumed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the Agency was assigned the role of implementing geothermal projects until 2026.
