Exploration of a Geothermal Well Near Vinkovci Has Begun

Geothermal potential exploration has started at the Vinkovci GT-1 well as part of the project “Preparation and Exploration of Geothermal Potential in the Context of District Heating.” This is a strategic initiative aimed at harnessing locally available, renewable geothermal energy for district heating and further economic development. The exploration is being conducted by the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency, with works carried out by Crosco – Naftni Servisi d.o.o., a member of the INA Group.

So far, two wells have been drilled — in Velika Gorica and Osijek — with results confirming positive findings, including reservoir temperatures exceeding 100 °C. This has demonstrated that both cities possess geothermal potential that can be applied not only in heating systems but also in agriculture. Following the activities in the Vinkovci area, exploration will continue in Zaprešić.
